February’s OMG

Quilting and binding this Jelly Roll Race quilt was my goal for the month of February, and I was able to complete it.  Of course I finished it on the last day of the month, all I can say is thank goodness for goals.

  

I’m not exactly sure where I got this batik fabric from, however right from the start I knew I wanted to make another Jelly Roll Race quilt with it.  I have found that in the batik jelly rolls there isn’t the variety of fabric that there is in a standard jelly roll.  The batik jelly rolls usually have two of each fabric, so it doesn’t give as much variety in the overall finished quilt.  I believe I might have added some fabric from my stash to expand on this quilt to add variation.

I also knew from the start that I wanted to add an additional colour as a joiner and to all a little zing to the quilt.  When I picked the turquoise I kept thinking of fire and ice or fire and water, so when I found a pantograph called Aqua Flame by Hermione Agee I thought the pattern and name was just right for this quilt.

I used up some bigger pieces in my stash for the back and remembered to include a label.

Near the end of the month I usually bring my OMG quilt projects into work so that I can finish sewing on the binding during my lunch hour.  I got the idea that this quilt would look good by our fire-place.  I work in the Library at Mount Royal University and this is a comfy reading area on our third floor.

City Tile quilt catch-up

Thank goodness Emily of Quilty Love included a catch-up week in her City Tiles quilt along, I needed it and finished these two City Tile quilt blocks.

So now I am back on track, with only four blocks to finish which is the goal for week seven of the QAL.

Here are all the blocks that I have so far.

 

The pinks are all from fat-eighth bundles that my mom gave me, and the blue/green corners are from my stash,  and I am making the background scrappy with various whites from my stash, this quilt would have looked nice in my mom's house which was decorated with emerald green.

Quarter Log Cabin quilt blocks

It’s the last Saturday in February for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and the colour purple, I’m finishing off the month with my purple scrappy quarter log cabin blocks.

Having started this collection of blocks this year I have these purple blocks and you can see my light blue for January blocks as well as my inspiration for this quilt here.

This year I have four RSC projects on the go: TheCogs, High Five, Squared Away and the Quarter Log Cabin quilt blocks (as well as other projects), no wonder I feel so busy, however quilting time is my happy time.

Mumbo Gumbo quilt

Nadine made this gloriously coloured Mumbo Gumbo quilt for her friend Carmella.  To reflect Carmella’s preferred colour Nadine used pink and hot pink as the building corners for each block.

Quilted with the Spirals pantograph by Denise Schillinger, a nice contrast to the squareness of the overall quilt pattern, and a bright pink Glide thread called Rhododendron.

Spring Fever quilt

Spring Fever is a great name for this quilt, the greens surely remind me of the green of spring and the other bits of colours of new growth and flowers popping up.

A perfect complement to this quilt and it’s name, Linda picked the Blowing in the Wind (leaves) pantograph and a celery coloured thread.

I don’t think she could have picked a better backing, more beautiful green leaves.

I certainly have Spring Fever this winter, it has been colder than usual and we have gotten more snow than usual, so I’m looking forward to the spring.

No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.

City Tiles Week Five

And I’m falling behind, thank goodness next week is a catch-up week, I’ll need it.

This week I was able to finish one City Tiles quilt block.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge Time

It’s Saturday and time to post my weekly piecing for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  Our colours for the month are purple and lilac.  This year I’m also taking part in the 2018 RSC Sampler called Squared Away, our block for February is called Wishing Ring, we are making three blocks each month for a total of 30 blocks by the end of 10 months.  

Somehow I made four blocks this month, so I guess I will have to pick the best three out of four.  Anyone want to help me out, which three would you pick?
