Low-Volume Baby Quilt

I sat sunning myself on the deck while I finished sewing the binding on this little low-volume quilt which was my One Monthly Goal (OMG) for June. 

This little quilt has an interesting story (don’t they all?), A fellow book-club member was having a fabric and book fund raiser for her choir, so I donated a bunch of fabric, including a little tin of charms.  Of course I also went to the sale to see what I could find to bring home and found this 20” X 80” strip of low-volume patches, which I thought I would reconfigure into a little 40” X 40” quilt. 

I later found out that my friend Mary Anne had donated the low-volume strip and that she had bought my little tin of charms!  Fund raiser doing exactly what it should, gathering goods and redistributing to make money for a worthy cause.

Blue play

I’m playing with my blue scraps for the month of June and the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

First I finished some book-marks in blues and greens.  I’ve been playing with the inside layer as my husband thought the batting was a little thick, and now I’ve settled on a firm interfacing, just the right thickness and firmness. 

Next I made a set of leaf potholders in dark blues.  This pattern is from Patchwork Pottery. 

I found some larger bits in my scraps, and an almost fat-quarter for the bias binding. 

Finished off sewing the binding and button detail while watching the movie The Favourite with my husband last night.

A few more little blue projects, these scrappy triple four patch blocks for a quilt called UFO Complete from the book Simple Strategies for Block-swap Quilts, by Lynn Roddy Brown. 

That’s been my week, I’m not sure where I found the time as I’ve been busy with my choir – Cool Choir - rehearsing for our final concerts, this weekend, and now I’m off to our final dress-rehearsal. 

Low Volume a goal for June

My One Monthly Goal for June is to quilt and bind this crib sized low volume quilt, here it is with the backing fabric waiting to be quilted. 

I pieced together some white, cream and beige larger bits from my scrap collection for the back. 

A couple of more pictures of the front. 

Not sure how I’m going to quilt it yet, perhaps spiraling circles, I really liked the look of my Neutral Mile a Minute quilt when it was finished.  Or perhaps I might just pick a pantograph and keep it simple.  Thoughts?

Baby Rainbow Rows quilt complete

My One Monthly Goal (OMG) for May was to complete this crib size Rainbow Rows quilt and I did it. 

This little quilt was made with the left-over blocks from my full-sized Rainbow Rows quilt, which my husband and I now have on our bed.

Quilted with the Double Plume pantograph by Keryn Emmerson. 

You can see the quilting a bit better on the back of the quilt.

Scrappy Triple Four Patch

I’m starting another quilt, and thought I would show off my orange(y) blocks for Orange May with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. 

The quilt is called UFO Complete and it’s from the book Simple Strategies for Block-swap Quilts, by Lynn Roddy Brown. 

There will be 90 of the triple four patch, 5 double four patch blocks and 220 squares.  

It’s supper scrappy, and you can get an idea of what it’s going to look like here.  When I quilted Doreen’s quilt I just loved the design and scrappiness of this quilt, so it’s been on my ‘to do’ list for a while.  Then about a month ago I decided to start by cutting a 3 ½ inch strip of most of the fabrics in my stash.

Orange Leaf Pot-holders

May is orange at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, so I’ve made a set of the leaf pot-holders in orange this month.  

There were some cute buttons in my orange button jar. 

A few bigger orange pieces for the backing and a fat quarter from my stash for the binding. 

It’s not hard to find orange leaves in nature.

A Goal for May

A Rainbow Rows baby quilt is the next on my agenda to finish.  This little quilt was made up from the left over blocks from my full-size Rainbow Rows quilt, which you can see here.  My May goal will be to quilt and bind this little quilt.

Rainbow Rows baby will also be quilted with the Double Plume pantograph by Keryn Emmerson.

First I need to find some fabric for the back, which I don’t think will be a problem, I’ll pick and/or piece something from my white, cream and low volume stash. 

I’m so very excited to say that I was one of the winners of Elm Street Quilts April Finish Link-up.  I am looking forward to receiving a large spool set from Aurifil, I’ll be watching my mailbox!  See the many May goals and consider joining in the fun and satisfaction of completed projects (and the possibility of winning one of the lovely monthly prizes).
