Something Fishy Finished

I finished my little Fishy quilt, quilted and bound, to participate in Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal (OMG). 

Backed with a yellow and orange flannel dot. 

I used a pantograph called Aqua Flame by Hermione Agee and an affinity variegated thread called Carolina. 

Happy to have this little quilt completed. 

I love to fish, catching one is a bonus.

Owen’s Birthday

Today is my grandson’s birthday and I’m posting last year’s birthday gift and project. He loves running shoes, and he was hoping for a pair of Converse Comme des Garçons PLAY collab (collaboration) running shoes.  I was able to find a pair of these cute shoes.  

The more I see them the more I think I’d like a pair as well.

In my stash I had a great piece of Running Shoe fabric, and thought this was the perfect opportunity to make a fun pillow case. 

I’m happy with the contrasting fabric I found for the cuff, also from my stash. 

Here’s Owen in a different pair of runners, a gift from Grandma Shelly.  They were excellent for the Hip-hop class I enrolled him in.

Something Fishy

Participating in Elm Street Quilts One Monthy Goal (OMG) for May my goal is to quilt and bind this little Fishy quilt. 

I took a silk screening class at Alberta University of theArts a couple of years ago and this is one of the pieces I screened.  I thought it would make a nice baby quilt and was able to find a complementary flannel for the back. 

I think I found an appropriate pantograph to quilt it with in my collection, drop by at the end of the month to see the completed quilt. 

Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.  What is your genius?

Done and Done

Happy to say I’ve completed my primary April goal (OMG) to quilt and bind this flannel crib quilt. 

 I enjoyed the look of this pile of binding in the making. 

I picked up this lime polka dot fabric at Sugar Town Quilt Company in Cranbrook, however I was a bit short for the backing and was able to find this fun zig zag at Along Came Quilting in Calgary.

Quilted with the Popcorn pantograph by Jodi Beamish, one of my favs for baby quilts. 

I also had a secondary goal which was to complete this sweater - my Marchgoal - which got completely derailed due to the COVID19 pandemic, I was so distracted last month.  I’m happy to say I finished it this month as well.  

The sweater is called Split Diamond Crewneck and is from a Kaffe Fassett & Zoe Hunt book called Family Album: Knitting for Children and Adults. It has 27 different colours of yarn in it. 

I am delighted with this Finish, as it was too many years in the making. 

I have to add that this sweater was completed mostly in Finishing School, a weekly workshop/meeting that I host through the Maker Studio at Mount Royal University Library.  Every Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 pm many of us gather to do handwork and many projects get completed while having interesting conversation, lending advice and offering encouragement and support.  During our ‘work from home’ order we have now moved to Virtual FinishingSchool (click and scroll down to Finish School) anyone is invited to join us, you just need to register and use a Chrome browser.

Light Blue Bookmarks

These mini log cabin bookmarks were this week’s project for my participation in Soscrappy’s Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I was able to complete 15. 

Here’s what they look like closer up. 

Making up a stash of these for our pre-Christmas artisan sale at my University. 

I have a bunch of orange ready for the fancy top stitching, however I don’t have any 1/8 inch orange ribbon (or any other colour that would work).  I checked on-line but purchase and delivery of an 89 cent item seems ridiculous.  This morning during senior’s hour at Walmart I check their craft section, they didn’t have orange, so the orange are stalled for now, and it will be a quick finish once I get the ribbon.

Well I’d like to say it’s time to go read, however it’s time to make more COVID masks.  I made some for my family members to wear when out in public and also took some to my mom and dad in their retirement home, apparently all the staff who saw my mother’s mask would like one.  I’m happy to provide these for the people caring for my folks, I certainly have no shortage of fabric.

Flannel Baby Mile a Minute quilt

Hoping to complete this flannel baby Mile a Minute quilt this month. 

Last year my daughter decided my quilting room needed organizing, and moved most of my fabric into clear containers, from the cardboard boxes I was storing it in before.  Touching and being able to see all my fabric got me excited and playing with things that had been hiding for a long time.  I decided I needed to make something with my flannel scraps. So my go to Mile a Minute it was.

I plan on quilting and binding this quilt by the end of the month so that I can take part in Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal (OMG).  Thank goodness I picked up some extra flannel for the back before all the quilt shops closed in March. 

Last month I got totally distracted with all the world events that I did not finish my sweater and it is so close, just the sides and sleeves, perhaps I’ll post both projects as finished at the end of April!

Light Blue Mile a Minute Squares

I had fun sewing through my light blue squares and making these 14 Mile a Minute squares. 

Sometime I just need to sit and sew and not think too much about measuring, matching and calculating, Mile a Minute is my go to block, for happy mindless sewing.  Always fun for to see how the blocks are going to turn out, and of course so many happy memories in these scraps of past quilting projects.
