Finished Object

My goal for March was to quilt and bind this scrappy quilt called UFO Complete.  UFO stands for UnFinished Object in quilter lingo. 

This quilt pattern can be found in the book Simple Strategies for Block-Swap Quilts by Lynn Roddy Brown. I was inspired by my friend Doreen’s version which I quilted for her in 2015 and blogged here. 

This quilt has a little story, as most of them do.  Each year I cull my stash and send fabric to Ujamaa Grandma’s annual fabric sale. So one year as I was collecting fabrics to deliver to them I decided to cut a strip of each fabric before I let them go.  I cut these strips big enough for the components of the blocks in this quilt, and that was the beginning.  Piecing this quilt was an excellent leader/ender project and slowly it came together.

Quilted with the Double Plume pantograph b by Keryn Emmerson, and a Honey Gold Glide thread. 

I had one larger piece of suitable backing fabric in my stash and was able to find a couple of complimentary fabrics to make the back big enough. 

 

Happily March’s goal is complete so that I can take part in Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal.  And now it’s time to find a project to finish for April.

UFO Revisited

The project that I’ve selected to complete for March’s OneMonthly Goal (OMG) is a quilt called UFO Complete. 

The top was pieced in December, and as I was looking for a quilt to finish this month as I searched through my large pieces of fabric to find suitable backings for any of my quilt tops waiting to be quilted.  I’m happy with a piece I found in my stash, that I thought would be appropriate for UFO Complete, not quite big enough, however I also found a couple of complimentary pieces to expand the size.

Yellow Leaves

Today is the last day for the colour yellow with the RainbowScrap Challenge.  The only thing that I’ve found time to do in yellow this month are these scrappy leaf potholders. 

You will find the leaf potholder pattern at Patchwork Pottery. 

Last year I made a set in all colours of the rainbow to be ready for a Christmas Artisan sale at my place of work.  When Christmas came we were locked down, however I was able to take part in a Virtual Marketplace for our city on Facebook.  My potholders sold out, and I got some orders for after Christmas as well.  This year I hope to make more than one set in all the colours while participating in Soscrappy’s Rainbow Scrap Challenge, a nice way to try and keep my multiplying scraps in control.

Quilty Stars

Quilting and binding the ‘Quilty Stars’ quilt was my goal for the month of February while participating in Elm Street Quilts One MonthlyGoal (OMG) and I did it. 

This quilt was started and the top completed in the Summerof 2019 as part of a quilted along with Quilty Love.  

I found a backing fabric that I liked, and buying all that the store had, realized that some back art, was required to get the length that I needed. 

In keeping with the star theme, Quilty Stars is quilted with the Shooting Stars pantograph by Sue Schmieden, and I found a nice white on white with stars for the binding. 

Finishing it off with a quilt label, Quilty Stars is complete and ready for sale.

Quilty Stars: a goal for February

I’m always look forward to participating in Elm StreetQuilts One Monthly Goal (OMG).  This month I’m suffering with low motivation, however I feel I must keep moving forward, so today just before the ‘party’ ends I’ve picked my next project to finish. 

Quilty Stars was a quilt along that I participated in with Quilty Love the Summer of 2019, if interested you can see a couple of the quilt block posts here and here.

I found a nice blue with circle fabric for the back, however it is a bit short, so I’ll be adding some back art using left over strips of fabric used in the front of the quilt. 

Looking forward to having another finish, and goal complete at the end of February.

Pink hearts

January’s colour is pink for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and Quilty Love is having a heart themed quilt along, so I’m thinking about Valentine’s Day while participating and sewing up pink hearts. 

There is also a bonus with the pattern to make another little quilt from the trimmed corners. 

I really enjoyed playing with my pink scraps and stash this month.  I wanted to make some heart potholders, and here is my first. This pattern is from Spoon Full of Sugar. 

It ended up too thick which causes my machine to skip stitches, so I’m going to try a thinner batting.

Ready to sew few pink leaf potholders. 

All these pink projects, and yet I don’t feel I’m finished with pink, I still have this stuffed bag to play with.

Yellow Baby Mile a Minute quilt

Happily I have completed my One Monthly Goal for January, which was to quilt and bind this Mile a Minute baby quilt. 

When it came time for quilting, the yellow said "daisies" to me, so I used the Daisies Galore pantograph by Irene Steele. 

Found a lovely piece for the back in my stash. 

I pieced this little quilt top last October while participating in Soscrappy’s Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) and this month I complete it while participating in Elm Street Quilt’s One Monthly Goal.

I finished sewing the binding on at Finishing School, a ‘drop in’ that I run (virtually for now) through the Mount Royal University Library’s Maker Studio on Thursday’s from 12:30 to 1:30 MST.  I fondly refer to it as Stitch and Bitch, however since we are an academic institution we call it Finishing School.  Finishing School came into being as I was always racing to finish a quilt at the end of the month and would use my noon hours at work to handsew the binding, others began to join me and it has evolved into a weekly event with any kind of handwork being done. All are welcome, consider joining us if you are free.

This little quilt will now go to my Album (booth) at Calgary’s Virtual Market on Facebook.
