Cozy Flannel Quilt

Lynne made this flannel quilt for her mother whose health was failing.  It was a rush quilt job as Lynne wanted to send it off to her mom in the hospital to comfort her until Lynne was able to make the trip to be with her.  Unfortunately Lynne’s mom didn’t make it; Lynne is planning on making a new label and keeping the quilt in memory of her mom.

Black and White with a dash of colour

Black and White crazy patches

I’m working on a set of Crazy Patches using mostly black and white prints and decided each block needed a dash of colour so I’ve added a primary (or green) to each block.  I do have a bunch of these blocks made up however not quite enough for a quilt yet.  

Most of the fabric from these patches is from a gift (green garbage bag full of cottons) from my friend Nancy who used to own a Villa Factory, a well known clothing company in Calgary.  

My Inch by Inch quilt and the Inch by Inch Blue and White blocks have all come out of the same bag.

Shades of Grey (and Black) Mile a Minute Blocks

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge for this month is devoted from the black to grey spectrum.  As usual I have made a set of Mile a Minute blocks.  I must lay this Rainbow collection of Mile a Minute blocks out to see how I am going to arrange them, perhaps that will be next month’s challenge as I am spending any extra time that I have preparing for an Artisan Sale at the end of this month.

Bargello Quilt

Bargello Quilt

I made this quilt many years ago when the style of bargello quilts first became popular; it was made to be a wall hanging for our master bedroom and I gave it the name ‘Heartbeat’.  This week as I was admitted to the cardiac unit of the hospital I knew that my next blog post would be the bargello quilt.   

As it turned out the cardiac thing was a false alarm, I actually went to emergency with a swollen ankle however my heart was doing strange things and gave some concerning readings on the ECG which made the doctors think I needed an angiogram.  I kept saying “I’m here for my ankle” however it was my heart that they focused on.

What I found quite amusing was while waiting for the angiogram I was in a room with a bunch of older men who were overweight, having trouble breathing and kind of red faced and they were saying the same thing that I was thinking “I don’t know what I’m here for, there’s nothing wrong with my heart.”  So I figured I was in denial too.

I’m home now, heart and veins are excellent and my ankle still hurts.

There are many things in life that will catch your eye, but only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those. - Michael Nolan
