Dimestore a quilt by Janet

Janet loves Red and White quilts!  She made this beauty following the Dimestore pattern by Miss Rosie’s Quilt Co.

As a contrast to the squares we used the Spirals pantograph by Denise Schillinger and a linen coloured thread to compliment the background fabric.

The concept of the variety store originated with the five and ten, nickel and dime, five and dime, ten-cent store, or dime store, a store offering a wide assortment of inexpensive items for personal and household use.  I often frequented the Five and Dime with my allowance, anyone else remember these stores?

The word "dime" comes from the French word dîme, meaning tithe or tenth part, from the Latin decima.

A little thought and a little kindness are often worth more than a great deal of money. ~ John Ruskin
