A goal for March

It is my intention to join the pieces of this sweater together and knit the ribbing around the neck. 

Blocked and ready to go.  My daughter tells me I’ve been working on this sweater all her life, she may be correct!  I won’t tell you how old she is, however she has graduated from University and been working for at least a couple of years.

The sweater is called Split Diamond Crewneck and is from a Kaffe Fassett & Zoe Hunt book called Family Album: Knitting for Children and Adults.  It has 27 different colours of yarn in it.  I just checked and the book was published in 1999, so my daughter was already a several years old when I bought it and then started knitting this, phew.

I’m looking forward to wearing it at the end of the month.

And with this goal I'm linking up with Elm Street Quilts one monthly goal, thank goodness I qualify with yarn, as her rules state:  Any goal that involves a step in the process of making with thread, fabric or yarn is a valid goal.

This weekend’s (month’s) forcast is mostly knitting with a chance of wine.

Black and White with Rainbow bits

I’ve completed my goal for February which was to quilt and bind this Black and White with Rainbow Bits quilt. 

Quilted with the blowing Wind pantograph by Jodi Beamish, the top thread is a black and white variegated thread called zebra.  This quilt finished at 63 by 58 inches. 

Wanting to use up fabric from my stash, I found some larger black and grey remnants to do a little back art. 

I thought this small black with rainbow dots was just right for the binding. 

Another Monthly Goal completed as I sew along with ElmStreet Quilts and participate in One Monthly Goal OMG!  Having fun.

February's Goal

I’m participating in Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and I have a quilt I’d like to finish this month. 

Inspired by a couple of quilts I saw on pinterest and needing to 'just sew', I pulled out all my two and a half inch pre-cut black and white and grey strips, along with some rainbow coloured squares and quickly whipped together this black and white stripy quilt.  I sewed it in the Jelly Roll Race style. 

Once I got the top done I pieced the back with larger pieces from my stash, happy to have another quilt completely from my stash.  My goal is to quilt and bind this lovely by the end of February – now, time to get it on the long-arm.

OMG for January completed

I’m happy to say that I got the binding on my Cogs quilt which was my goal for January and makes me eligible to participate in ElmStreet Quilts One Monthly Goal – OMG!

After trimming the extra fabric from the backing I had more than enough to make my binding strips.

Some nice clean snow and a little sunshine were helpful in laying this quilt out to get some photos.

So happy to have this quilt complete it’s been sitting here for a while.  Now I have to look to see what I might complete for February, stay tuned.

Starting the New Year with a Goal

I’m back!  I took a big unintentional break from blogging, quilting and goals, as I spent the Fall of 2019 helping my dad and step-mom downsize from their home of 30 plus years to a retirement, assisted-living villa.  Phew and it is done, all except for selling their home.  They are now comfortably in their new place.

I’m ready and excited to get back into ‘my life’ and quilting and finishing projects.  My first goal of 2020 is to put the binding on the last quilt that I quilted back in September.  You’ll recognize my Cogs quilt from my last blog and Facebook post. 

Now just to find the right fabric for the binding, I’m sure it exists in my stash.  Here is another picture of the other side. 

Happy to be participating once again in Elm Street QuiltsOne Monthly Goal (OMG).  It would be nice to have twelve finishes this year.

Cogs a goal for September

It’s time for a new monthly goal, so I can participate in Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal.  Having a goal does help to keep me on track and get my quilts completed.

This month my goal is to quilt and bind my Cogs quilt. 

Here is Cogs with the backing that I bought on a recent trip to Quincy’s Quilting shop in Leduc, Alberta.  Such a lovely quilt shop, roomy, light and so much fabric, if you are in the Edmonton area you might want to check it out. 

Time to start …

OMG and RSC

Short for One Monthly Goal and the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

I was able to complete my OMG this busy month (just this morning).  I wanted to make 15 Quilt Stars blocks and here they are. 

Here is what one block looks like up close. 

I then laid all 25 blocks out to get a peek at what the quilt top will look like. 

A little sashing and narrow borders and this top will be done.  That will likely be another OMG.  Quilty Stars is a pattern by Quilty Love.  Of course I made this completely with scraps and bits from my stash, I do have more blue than any other colour, with this quilt top I may have made the smallest dent.

This month I also finished a few blue scrappy triple four patch blocks for a quilt called UFO Complete from the book Simple Strategies for Block-swap Quilts, by Lynn Roddy Brown. 

I also started some blue leave potholders 

... but that’s as far as I got, whey will be completed during the last two months of RSC which are usually no colour months so that we can complete some Rainbow projects.
