Green Mile a Minute quilt

I'm happy to have completed my green Mile a Minute quilt for May, to participate in Sorties from the Sewing Room's One Monthly Goal.

I started this quilt at the beginning of the year while teaching the Mile a Minute technique to a local (Calgary) quilt guild.

Close up of a couple of the blocks.

I dug into my stash and found I had a lot of green fabric, which made it an easy choice for the sashing, corner stones, borders and backing, and making this look like a green quilt.

Pieced binding

Once the quilting was complete I decided to piece the trimmings from the backing fabric to make my binding,

Pieced back of the quilt - "Back Art"

Actually the blocks have so many colours in them that you can use any colour for sashing and borders.  In class we experimented with this and placed the blocks on any different colour background, giving an entirely different look and feel.

I love this block, as it used up all the little bits.  I will be teaching another Mile a Minute later this month at Out of Hand Quilting and Fabric, and I have a Mile a Minute tutorial on my blog, starting here.

Orange Jewelry Pouches

Playing with the colour orange this week to participate in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, click on over to see what others have accomplished in orange.  Maybe get inspired and join us.

Looking through my orange stash I found a some pieces large enough to make a couple of travel jewelry pouches in orange.  A fat quarter will work.

And here's a look inside.  They have six little compartments for earrings or other little things, and then a couple of ribbons to tie down bangles or necklaces.

At the last Christmas market I participated in I was asked if I had any travel jewelry pouches, so I decided it would be one of my projects for this year.  What better way to get them done than by making a couple every month in the colours of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

Life is Like an Orange — sometimes tough on the outside, but sweet, refreshing, and full of surprises on the inside. You have to peel through the layers of challenges, fears, and doubts to reach the good parts.

May's Goal

I do have a small pile of quilts that need to be quilted.  The quilt tops are done and most of them have backs as well.  My One Monthly Goal (OMG) for May is to quilt and bind this green Mile a Minute quilt.

I pieced most of this quilt in January while I taught a Mile a Minute class. It's the sashing, cornerstones and border that give this quilt it's green look, as the blocks are a mix of all colours.

Click on over to the link for this months One Monthly Goal page to see what others have picked for their goals and consider joining us, I find it to be a good motivator.

Check in on me at the end of the month to see how I've done, and where I'll post more details and pictures of this quilt.

You won't get it done if you don't get started.

And then there were twelve

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) colour for the month of May is orange.  I've started this month with my 6 1/2 inch Mile a Minute blocks.

My plan is to make ten of these little blocks each month for the RSC, somehow this month I made 12.  At the end of the year I plan on making a Rainbow Mile a Minute quilt.

Take a minute to check out what others are doing for the RSC and consider joining us in piecing and quilting through the colours of the rainbow.
