Comfy Cozy Christmas and a Pieceful New Year

Christmas Sampler Quilt

I pieced this Christmas quilt in Mary Lou Scott’s sampler class many years ago.  I always refer to this class as my ‘Master Quilting Class’ as Mary Lou was a master quilter who taught many quilters.  Each week we would get together make a new block and learn some new techniques.  One week Mary Lou would teach us several ways to hand appliqué, another week she would teach us several ways to machine appliqué, every week new piecing magic.  I learned so much in this class and took away my own favourite techniques which I use to this day.

A Christmas Quilt

Christmas Quilt

This Christmas quilt is full of fond memories of Rhonda’s cat.  The quilt has been in the making for a few years and Rhonda’s cat used to curl up on it while it was a flimsy (an unsandwiched,  unquilted, completed quilt top).  Now that dear kitty is gone Rhonda decided it was time to have it quilted.

Christmas Holly Pantograph

Rhonda picked Red Velvet to back and the Christmas Holly Pantograph by Patricia Ritter for the quilting design.

No amount of time can erase the memory of a good cat, and no amount of masking tape can ever totally remove his fur from your couch. ~ Leo Dworken

Postcards from Hawaii

Postcards from Hawaii Quilt

After spending a Christmas in Hawaii, Leanne decided she wanted to bring Hawaii to Calgary. This December Leanne hosted a Christmas party for her quilting group and her house was all decked out in the Hawaiian theme, it was a cheerful and entertaining get together and this quilt Postcards from Hawaii quilt was part of her decor.  Leanne purchased this fabric in a kit from KapaiaStitchery in Kauiu.

Spirals Pantograph

We chose the Spirals pantograph by Denise Schillinger and used a cream thread.

Leanne is planning another Kauiu holiday, and after looking at Kapaia Stitchery’s website I think I’ll be surfing on over to WestJet to check out flights.

Oh, Christmas isn’t just a day, it’s a frame of mind ~ Miracle on 34th Street
