A Finish

Houses quilt with hydrangia

I did it, I finished one of my quilts.  Encouraged by A Lovely Year of Finishes (Challenge) I decided I wanted to finish a very old project.  This project was started at least five years ago, probably more.  What usually stalls me is making a back and then actually quilting.  I bought a longarm machine about four years ago so that I could actually quilt, I also thought it would be a good idea to quilt for others to pay for my machine.  Well I now quilt for others almost all the time and my quilts wait patiently at the back of the closet.  Thank goodness for A Lovely Yearof Finishes, I just needed a little help, and a challenge or deadline will do it for me.

Something else that stalled me on this quilt was deciding how to quilt it, I kept thinking something special, in each block together with trees and rocks and skies.  Well after doing a couple of customer house quilts with pantographs and talking to a few other longarm quilters I decided a pantograph would be just fine.  Thank goodness, otherwise this quilt would still be waiting.  I used the Blowing in the Wind pantograph by Irene Steele of Willow Leaf Studios and a light olive coloured thread.

For the backing I chose to go through my stash and pick all the larger pieces of matching fabrics and piece them.

So now it is quilted and bound and I am thinking about a project for October.  Stop by SewBitterSweet designs to see what others have finished or to join A LovelyYear of Finishes challenge  fun for October.

Much of the stress that people feel doesn’t come from having too much to do.  It comes from not finishing what they’ve started. ~ David Allen

Ethan’s quilt by Sarah

Somebody loves his quilt.
Ethan's quilt

Ethan’s mom made this delightful quilt for his big boy bed.  The pattern is called Looking In, and can be found at the Cluck Cluck Sew blog.

I love the colours that Sarah picked for Ethan’s quilt, we selected a celery coloured thread along with the popcorn pantograph to finish this happy quilt.
