Green March …

for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC).

I’ve been pre-occupied this month making quilted alphabet letters for my grandson Jaxon’s fourth birthday, however they are complete and mailed so I was able to do some RSC sewing.

First I wanted to keep up with the RSC 2018 Sampler, so I finished my three lime green Red Cross blocks, you can find a tutorial at TheAcademic Quilter

My next project was to make my High Five blocks, ten little ones and one large block.  High Five is from the book Sunday Morning Quilts by Amanda Jean Nyberg and Cheryl Arkison

Sewing these blocks give me hope of Spring, we are having yet another episode of Winter here in Calgary, with more snow and very low temperatures.

April will bring a new colour with the RSC, I wonder what it will be?

We are not given a good live or a bad life.  We are given a life.  It’s up to us to make it good or bad.

A goal completed

My One Monthly Goal for March was to complete a set of fabric letters as a gift for my grandson Jaxon’s fourth birthday and I did it.  They are complete and in the mail, hopefully to arrive in time for the Birthday party.

Here they all are, it was fun and a little frustrating to find fabric for each of the letters of the alphabet.
You can find the pattern at the blog Happy Together.

As a bonus I wanted to make a little fabric bag to carry and store the letters and found some cute fabric for that as well.

The inside of the bag has more letters.
My daughter loved the fabric alphabet idea and asked me to make a set for her, she teaches autistic children and thought these would be a great teaching aid.  I have to finish two letters for her and then complete another fabric bag in some other alphabet fabric that I found.
She’s on Spring break, so I have a week to finish her set.

I’m thankful for Elm Street Quilts and One Monthly Goal, really helping me to keep on track with finishing up projects.

Happy Birthday to a happy little four year old – Jaxon.

Addison’s quilt

Sandra made this lovely lemon and grey modern style quilt as a wedding gift for her grandchild Addison.  Simply called Addison’s wedding quilt.

She picked the Popcorn pantograph by Jodi Beamish and a light grey thread.

Caliente Quilt

Caliente – to feel hot – is the name of this quilt and the pantograph (Patricia E. Ritter) that Diane picked for the quilting, a good pairing.

Diane also picked an amazing fabric for the back of this quilt, such coordination.
I’m always intrigued by Diane’s colour choices, she puts them together so nicely.

A Quilt for Kate

Lynne made this quilt which she calls ‘Shine on Me’ for her niece Kate.  Although the blocks look random and scrappy, I know Lynne meticulously pieced this pastel beauty, making sure there was just the right balance of colours in each 64 patch quilt block.
Lynne decided on the Chantilly Lace pantograph by Norma Sharp.
And completed the quilt with a lovely label.
What a blessing this quilt gift is for Kate.
If the world seem cold to you, set it alight with your generosity of spirit (and a warm quilt).

Yvonne’s Double Wedding Ring

Yvonne attended a Double Wedding Ring class that I taught and made this gorgeous black and white Double Wedding Ring quilt and a matching pillow sham.

The centers were quilted with a design called Elegance.

I added some hearts to the inside of the arcs.

And used connectors through the arcs and hearts in the corners.

Yvonne decided to make a pillow sham to go along with the quilt.

If my memory serves me right, I believe the quilt was to be a gift for her niece.
The Double Wedding Ring is one of my favourite quilts.

City Tiles top done

I’ve really enjoyed the City Tiles Quilt along (QAL) with Quilty Love.  Week eight’s goal was to sew the top together and I did it.
The City Tile blocks were fun to put together, and I enjoyed playing with these pinks.  They came from several fat eights bundles that my mom had collected and after keeping them for a many years she gave them to me last year for my birthday.  When I saw the City Tiles quilt and the fabric requirement (fat eights) I knew exactly what to do with mom’s fabric.

There were quite a few fat eights left so once I prewash them, they will be sewn together for the back of the quilt.
I decided to add a narrow white border to this quilt.  Once I get the back sewn together it will go in my quilts waiting to be quilted line-up and become an OMG project
You can see more lovely pictures and variations of City Tiles quilts at #citytilesqal.

March is green

This is the month to celebrate green, and the Rainbow ScrapChallenge is playing right along, the colours  that Angela has picked for the month of March are yellow or lime greens.  I tried my best sorting through my greens and this is what I found to make my Cog quilt blocks.
I’m not really sure how I feel about these cog quilt blocks, my friend Sandra is working on a Cog quilt in blue/grey/lavenders and I like how hers are turning out and my friend Diane has made one from a fat quarter bundle also very pretty, however I feel mine are a bit of a scrappy mess.  Hopefully they will all come together as I get all the colours of the rainbow.  Diane suggested that I could put incorporate the rejects into the back of the quilt, probably a good idea.

This is my favourite of the lime/yellow green group, the centre is actually a very dark purple.
So many quilters are participating in the RSC, have a look at their projects this week here.  Thank you for stopping by to see what I am playing with this week.

A Christmas quilt

Alison’s Christmas Block a Day quilt.  What a great idea this is, I believe she did it through a local quilt shop and I’m not sure if it was even near Christmas time.  Alison brought it to me in March and when I asked her when she needed it by, she simply said “before Christmas.”

Cute things happening on this quilt, like this gingerbread man.
This stocking with a hanging tag.
Quilted with the Winter White pantograph by Dave Hudson.
A lovely decoration for her home, it was completed in plenty of time for Christmas.

Starry Table Runner

Jane made this lovely table runner for a friend.

Quilted with a pantograph called Rapunzel Raven’s Claw, what a fun name for a quilting pattern.

I really like the stars, the fabric choice and the shape of this table runner.

City Tiles Week Seven

The goal for week seven of the Quilty Love City Tiles QAL (quilt along) was to complete the last four quilt blocks and I did it.

Now I have all 16 blocks completed and I hope to have them sewn together into a quilt top by next Sunday.   This shouldn’t be a problem, as I actually have a little quilting time set aside and will be joining some quilting friends on Tuesday for an afternoon of what I like to fondly refer to as ‘stitch and bitch’.  I’m not so sure we do so much bitching but we do discuss a lot, grandchildren, books, television series,  movies and life in general.  A diverse group with diverse outlooks and opinions, it’s a happy and productive time.

I’ve enjoyed making these City Tiles blocks and really enjoy the QAL idea, it has kept me on track.  You can view many other colour schemes and some lovely photography at #citytilesqal.

March OMG

It’s March and time for a new goal.  So many to choose from and I’ve decided on completing a set of quilted (or rag) alphabet letters for my grandson Jaxon whose fourth birthday is near the end of this month.

I downloaded a pattern from Happy Together and started matching fabric in my stash to the letters of the alphabet, I thought it might add a little fun and educational if there was something in the picture that represented the letter.

I was short a few letters and so on a recent trip home from Edmonton, my husband and I stopped in a couple of quilt shops to see if we could find fabric for the few remaining letters.  I was able to finish up the alphabet at Wildflower Creations in Lacombe and Peaceful Patch Quilt Shop in Blackfalds.  I even found a couple of cute alphabet fabrics to hopefully make a fabric letter basket.

So my goal for March is to complete the quilted alphabet, a bonus would be to make a fabric alphabet basket to contain them.

I’m following Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal (OMG) each month to help me get things done, check it out.
