Grace’s Bed Runner

Is complete!  This is my October finish with A Lovely Year of Finishes.  I’m so glad I found this blog, as I find a goal or a deadline really helps me to complete projects.

 

My colleague Grace asked me to make a bed runner for her a very long time ago, she wanted it in bright colours with her name on it. Here is my interpretation of what she wanted.

Grace and I work in a Library and I think the bright bands almost look like books on a shelf.

Some custom quilting.

Staying with the library (words) theme, I used a white on white text fabric for the back of the quilt.

I hope she likes it, I’ll bring it to her when I return from the InternationalQuilt Festival in Houston.  If this is not what Grace had in mind, my husband is waiting in line, he likes this lively little quilt, I guess we could all use a little Grace.

Two quilts by Doreen

Which way did he go, is the name of this first quilt, can you see all the arrows?  I really like Doreen’s choice of bright fabrics a nice contrast to the black crisscrossing squares.

Doreen enhanced the theme of this quilt with the fabric she chose for the back, there is an out of scale, out of proportion map of Canada fabric, bordered with lively ladies in all the bright colours used in the front of the quilt.  So much fun.

For quilting, Doreen chose the whimsical Popcorn pantograph by Jodi Beamish and a Rainbow variegated thread.  And there’s a red arrow – I think he went that way ↑

This little baby size quilt has images of African animals, so we decided to quilt it with the Animal Crackers pantograph by Patricia Ritter.  Here you can see an elephant in the corner.

Doreen used a lovely striped flannel on the back.  The first image shows the colour of the backing better, and the second shows the Animal Crackers pantograph attractively.

I always look forward to Doreen’s quilts, as I enjoy their scrappiness and Doreen’s choices of colour.

A Two Block quilt by Lynette

The two blocks in this quilt are Starry Splendor and Indian Puzzle, I think they come together so nicely and make an attractive pattern.

Lynette used three fabrics in each block as well as a background fabric that coordinated with the other block (did that make sense)?

I like what she did with the back of her quilt, using up bits of fabric left over and a delightful touch of creativity.

Lynette picked the Dragonfly Pond pantograph by Irene Steele and a bright blue glide thread called Pacific.
