Kaffee Fassett Blue

The official name of this quilt is Economy Blue Patch Quilt and you will find the pattern in Kaffe Fassett’s book Country Garden Quilts.

I first purchased a bundle of assorted blue Kaffe Fasset prints at a quilt shop in Denver, and while collecting all of Kaffe’s books I came upon this pattern and decided this was how I was going to use my blue collection.  I did have to buy a few more fabrics, however I had a good variety to start with.

Economy Blue Patch is actually a medallion quilt, can you see the small blocks in the centre, surrounded by larger blocks and then bordered with smaller blocks again?

For quilting I picked a pantograph called Bellflower by Patricia E. Ritter and a blue tread.  I like how the flower landed in the middle of some of the larger blocks.

A busy quilt, which suits me just fine as I love Kaffe Fassett fabrics and quilt designs.

This quilt finishes at 63 inches square.  One for me to keep as my favourite colour is blue.

Two underwater quilts

These two quilts are my One Monthly Goal (OMG) project for March completed.

Reef and Pond, two underwater quilts

They started out as a pile of blue batik 2 ½” strips that Dierdre, a local quilt shop owner gave me.  She was doing a bit of searching/cleaning and found this wad of blue batik and asked me if I wanted it (knowing blue is my favourite colour), of course I wanted it.  I brought the strips home and added a few of my own thinking I would make a really big jelly roll race quilt.  They sat in the drawer until one evening I just needed to sew, no thinking or measuring or anything, just sewing.  Once I got all the strips sewn together I realized it was too big and the strips were going in the wrong direction, they were vertical instead of horizontal.  I decided to cut the whole quilt in half, they would still be about twin size.

In February I took a Silk-screening class at the AlbertaCollege of Art and Design (ACAD) and decided I wanted to screen some water creatures on these quilts as I thought they looked like bodies of water.  So on one quilt top I screened a couple of koi and a goldfish. This quilt is called Pond.

On the other I screened an Octopus, a seahorse and a couple of pieces of coral.  This quilt is called Reef.

You can see close-ups of the creatures on my beginning of the month blog post called ‘OMG for March’.  I did want them to camouflage or blend into the quilt kind of like they would in their natural habitat.

Pond has an orange accent and backing.

Reef has a green accent and backing.

Pond is quilted with the Calm Water pantograph by Anne Bright

Reef is quilted with the Seaside pantograph by Kathie James.
Can you see the Clamshell, the conch, the starfish and the nautilus?

A couple of labels and these two are complete.

Surf on over to Elm Street quilts to see many other completed projects and consider joining in the fun for April.  I’m really enjoying taking part in One Monthly Goal party, such satisfaction in finishing some of my many UFO’s (UnFinished Objects).

Prehistoric Dinosaur quilt

Diane made this Dinosaur quilt for her grandson Colin.  A special theme for Colin and a great way to incorporate panels into a quilt, like looking through a window.

Prehistoric Dinosaur is quilted with the Dinosaurs pantograph by Dave Hudson and a titanium coloured thread by Glide.

You have to look closely to pick out the stegosaurus:

Brontosaurus:

And a Tyrannosaurus Rex:

Diane also incorporated a panel into the back of the quilt.

What a fun quilt for Colin.

Cozy Cuddler

A cuddle size quilt by Joan.  I just love the combination of colours in this quilt.

Joan decided that the Butterfly Charm pantograph by Hermione Agee and a celery coloured thread would be a nice match with the flowers.

Teddy Bear Quilt

A combination of yellows, browns and blues come together to make this charming baby quilt.

Sandra picked the Tumblin’ Teddy Bears pantograph by Patricia E Ritter and as there are some teddy bears in one of the prints, Teddy Bear quilt seems like a good name.  Quilted with a very light yellow Glide thread called Lemon Ice.

Some lucky baby will get to snuggle under this sweet quilt.

Everything in life I share, except of course my teddy bear!

Henry’s Baby Quilt

Such lovely cuddly fabrics and sweet prints Lynda used in this quilt for baby Henry.

Quilted with the Popcorn pantograph by Jodi Beamish and a soft blue thread called cloud.

I’m sure Henry’s parents love this quilt gift.

Space Race

A fun rockets and start in this special quilt for a special little one, by Mararet.
Space Race quilt
We used the Popcorn pantograph by Jodi Beamish because it looks like clouds, quilted with a grey thread.

A fun backing fabric on this quilt as well.

Not sure who the lucky recipient was but I’m sure some little one is happy with this quilt.

Red Churn Dash blocks

For the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, the colour for the month of March is Red, and I needed a couple more Red Wonky Churn Dash blocks.
I already had a couple of other red blocks, so now I have four and which is good, because I have four blocks of most of the colours. I hope to finish up the few last colours needed for this quilt as we sew our way through the rainbow this year.

These red blocks will join the drawer of other blocks, I think I need about six more blocks and I’ll have enough for a quilt top.

Be sure to check out other rainbow projects quilters are working on for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge at Angela’s Soscrappy blog.

Janet’s quilts

A few of Janet’s quilts from January 2014.  The first is a Lemon-Grey baby quilt.

Quilted with the Spirals pantograph by Denise Schillinger.

Janet picked a great backing for this quilt.

I really like the pattern of this quilt and I  have a few grey and yellow fat quarters, I might just have to make one like this.

Text Me
A great name for this cute quilt - the background is all text neutrals.  Janet likes to collect text fabric, she also like red and white quilts.

Text me was quilted with a cream coloured thread and the Double Plume pantograph by Keryn Emmerson.

Janet used up some extra nine-patches in a rainbow of colours in the back of this quilt.

Christmas Quilt Along
This little cutie was a quilt along with Lori Holt of ‘Bee in my Bonnet’, I think Lori does one every Christmas.

Quilted with a light pink thread called Cotton Candy (yum) and the Shooting Star pantograph by Sue Schmieden.

Some fun detail in this quilt, rick-rack on the ginger-bread man, and a tab on the Christmas stocking, I had to be careful not to quilt that down.

Sweetwater Jelly Roll baby quilt
A baby quilt made from a jelly roll, a great idea, and we’re ready for the next baby to be born.

Quilted with the Paper Dolls pantograph  by Patricia E. Ritter.

A lovely complementary fabric on the back of this quilt.

Cotton Candy baby quilt
A great use of pink and neutral scraps, again I’m inspired and want to copy this quilt.

Of course we used the light pink thread called Cotton Candy and the Spirals pantograph by Denise Schillinger is just the right complement to the squares.

Love the fabric Janet picked for the back of this baby quilt.

Base note placemats
Janet made these placemats for her cottage, in the style of the Base note quilt by Sarah Fielke, which you will find in Sarah’s book Hand Quilted With Love.

Being that they were for the sea-side cottage, we chose the Seaside pantograph by Kathie James and a very pale blue thread called Cloud.

Phew, Janet does keep me busy.  We usually meet every two weeks to sew and she always sends me home with quilts to long-arm.
