Potholders in Yellow

This is my second set of these cute leaf potholders, as I prepare for an Artisan sale.  If I keep on track and make a set each month, I should be somewhat prepared for the November sale. Yellow is the colour of the month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, so here they are in yellow.

You can see my red leaves here, and you will find the leaf potholder pattern at Patchwork Pottery.

So far I’m able to work from my fabric scraps and stash, and found these lovely yellows for the back and a pretty dot for the binding.

So many cute buttons to choose from my button jars.

We do see yellow leaves in nature and at the garden centre, however most are seen in Autumn.

Base Note OMG

I loved piecing the top of this quilt and now I’m looking forward to quilting it.
This quilt is called Base Note and you will find the pattern in the book Hand Quilted With Love by Sarah Fielke.

Mostly pieced with Kaffe Fassett fabrics, I plan to quilt it with a musical note pantograph that I have.

I used my birthday discount to purchase the backing fabric at Addie’s Creative Fabrics in Cochrane, it’s double wide which I’m not sure will be enough, so my plan is to expand it with some of the left over bits from the front of the quilt.

My One Monthly Goal (OMG) for February is to quilt and bind Base Note.
Many others have their goals posted at Elm Street Quilts OneMonthly Goal link-up.

Yellow Log Cabins

Delightfully, yellow is the colour of the month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, nice and light for a middle of Winter month.

Carrying on with making little sellable projects for the End of Year/Christmas Artisan Fair at my University, I’ve started February with little Log Cabin bookmarks.  I made a few in yellows and golds and then I was looking for something to compliment the yellow and decided on grey.

Here they are 10 little bookmarks to add to my inventory.
You can see last months Red bookmarks here.

Enjoy your day, I hope you find some time for quilting.

Birch Tree Quilt

I’ve completed my One Monthly Goal (OMG) for January.  This little Birch Tree quilt, which measures 36 by 45 inches, will make a nice baby quilt.

I was happy to find this birch bark fabric for the back.

Quilted with straight lines and leaves.

The Birch Tree pattern is by Amanda Jean Nyberg also know as Crazy Mom Quilts, and the hand-dyed background fabric is Colorways by Vicki Welsh.  I won the fabric while quilting along with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and thought the Birch Tree quilt was just the right project for it.  Bound with Kaffe Fassett Brassica Moss Fabric.

You can check out many other completed January goals at Elm Street Quilts, and perhaps join with us in February as we attempt to complete another project.

Red potholders

Preparing and testing out more ideas for an Artisan sale in red, which is the colour of the month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  I saw this cute leaf potholder pattern on Pinterest and decided to order it from Patchwork Pottery.

Here’s what the back looks like.
And a close-up of the cute buttons. The pattern says to sew them on with embroidery floss, however I think my son has borrowed/claimed mine!
I’m not sure about this idea yet, the first set seemed like a lot of work, and I should have cut bias bindings (opps).   I’m also not sure about leafs in red, even though you will find them in nature.  I’ll give these another try in next month’s colour and then decide if I want to continue making them.  Will they be a seller?

January’s Goal

My One Monthly Goal for January will be to quilt and bind this little Birch Tree quilt.
I found this great fabric that looks like birch bark for the back.

However I didn’t have the quilt dimensions when I found the fabric and I wasn’t sure about layout and it is a bit short for the direction I want the birch print to go and wider than I need, so I’m planning on making a diagonal cut and sliding the fabric down until it is long enough.  I saw this method on a Sparrow Studios YouTube, you can find it here – Learn how to piece your quilt backing diagonally.

I’m linking up with Elm Street Quilts OMG, as are over a hundred others, check out some of their projects, and drop by at the end of the month to see how I did.

I’m back

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged.  I’ve had many ideas and a few pictures as well, however with Christmas preparations and celebration as well as just relaxing and playing in my sewing room, I haven’t spent very much time on the computer.  Once again the Rainbow ScrapChallenge has inspired me, so here is the first blog of 2019.

I decided at the end of 2018, when I wasn’t prepared for my University’s Artisan Sale that I needed to start organizing right at the beginning of the year, so I hope to produce some little marketable items each month in the colours of the rainbow.

I made a bunch of tiny Log Cabin bookmarks this year as gifts to my book club and stocking stuffers and thought that I should make a batch each month.  The RSC colour for January is red, so here are my red bookmarks.

These are made with ¾ inch strips which finish at ¼ inch, tiny fun.

Now that I’ve made a start I hope to be blogging regularly.  Check out what others are doing in red, at Soscrappy’s Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I’m always inspired.  It helps to keep me sewing, blogging and playing through my scraps in a methodical way.
